Ronald Unkefer

Founder, Chairman & CEO

Entrepreneur.

Ron’s career as serial entrepreneur has spanned electronics retail (Good Guys Inc.), venture capital (First Ventures Capital Partners Inc.) and broadcast media (Mighty Media Group LP). As Founder, Chairman and CEO of each company, Ron has been determined to combine innovative ideas, best practices, and an entrepreneurial spirit with exceptional teammates. The result has been outstanding superior client experiences and profitable growth. Ron also has been chairman or board member of more than a dozen public and private companies including several non-profits.

Retailer.

Ron was the founder, chairman and CEO of Good Guys Inc., which grew to become the preeminent retailer of consumer electronics on the West Coast. He started the company in 1973, took it public in 1986 (GGUY), reached the billion dollar sales threshold in the 1990s and then engineered the sale of the company to CompUSA in 2003. 

Developer.

In 1992 Ron also founded First Broadcasting Company, Inc. initially to own and operate existing radio stations in San Francisco. The company then expanded nationally to create and develop new stations in many major markets. New FM stations were created using spectrum engineering, proprietary methods and patented SpectraMax technology created by Ron and his team. 

Investor.

He also founded First Ventures Capital Partners Inc. (First Ventures)  and made venture capital investments in seed and early stage Silicon Valley start-ups at the beginnings of the tech boom of the mid 1990s. 

Broadcaster.

First Ventures also invested in radio stations and broadcast towers. On behalf of First Ventures, over a two-decade time span beginning in 1997 Mighty Media Group operated a total of almost 100 AM, FM and FM Translators in large and small markets across the country. 

Generalist.

Ron has dabbled in small vineyard and winery ownership in the Napa Valley, designed and built the tallest broadcast tower in Texas and had a freshman success as a shopping center developer near the Silicon Valley. During its lifespan, his Unkefer Foundation donated several millions to dozens of non-profits, emphasizing charities supporting underprivileged children, Christian causes and health care in Texas.  He and his wife Terry now enjoy their life in Dallas with their grown children nearby.
